Get Canadian provinces in Google Analytics

Posted on April 17, 2009

If you’re among the users of Google Analytics v1, you probably miss the break down by Canadian provinces. You’re now stuck with cities and no other choice to drill down.

No other choice… Really? Some have already shown how to create a filter to only include traffic from a selected province. However, it’s still annoying to navigate between profiles to compare each province.
Isn’t there a better solution? Think about the brand new custom reports? Since region is still being captured, and is available through custom reports, here we are! Simply create a new custom report, select “country/territory” as dimension, and then “region”. Add a metric, let’s say “Visits”, save and you’re done!

Your custom report will show the countries. By clicking on “Canada” in your newly defined custom report, you have access to Canadian provinces.

OK, you still miss the map, but I’m pretty sure you can think of something by exporting data to Excel…
